About

I found photography late in my life. I first picked up a camera in 2011 and joined a photography workshop in Andalusia, Spain. I wanted to learn something new and take better snapshots while on vacation. To my surprise, I became hooked on travel and street photography. Every year I traveled somewhere on a photography tour, improving my skills while seeing the world. Taking photographs only two weeks out of a year was not enough. So, I About Doreen Sockeldecided to seriously pursue photography when I retired.

I gave my retirement notice on March 2, 2020, while on a photo tour in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. When I returned home the following week, the United States was entering its first Covid lockdown. With no travel opportunities and a lot of time, I enrolled in college photography courses. I converted my office into a studio and began working on school assignments and photographing my grandchildren. It was my salvation during Covid. During this time, I also published my first book of floral photography, Flowers Make My Heart Smile.

I hope to capture special moments that will be treasured forever and inspire others to take a new journey. The images I enjoy creating the most focus on people and the human connection, whether close to home or far away. Now that I can travel again, I am relishing the challenge of photographing and interacting with people from different cultures in more remote parts of the world.

I hope you enjoy my galleries. I would love to hear from you and come back often I will be adding to them. ~ Thank you. Doreen
