Reflections on Murano – Art and beauty in the water.
Murano comprises seven Islands linked by bridges in the Venice lagoon. The islands are famous for their high-quality hand-blown glass. In 1291, all Venetian glass blowers were required to move their furnaces to Murano to prevent catastrophic fires on the main islands and more importantly, to protect trade secrets.
Reflections are not limited to the island's stunning glass works. Magical, colorful reflections and shimmering lights also occur on the canals when light meets the water. Reflections of nearby buildings and boats are unpredictably distorted on the water's surface, reminiscent of an impressionist painting.
A passing gondola, vaporetto, or even the sea breeze blowing in from the Adriatic will shatter the water into new colors and break the image into uneven and unique patterns. When this occurs, the reflections will dance in wavy, mesmerizing movements.
